Company culture. It has been a buzzword for a while and many employers have spent large quantities in researching company culture to find what works and what doesn’t. It could be what helps you maintain a high level of staff retention, or it could also be why your staff retention is so low.

For many, the latter can be problematic as the cost of advertising for a new role, interviewing and onboarding new staff can quickly mount up.

So, what is company culture? It boils down to the behaviours, practices and processes of the company and the individuals within it. Kiran Menon, co-founder of tydy.co, writes that company culture and onboarding of a new employee go hand-in-hand. He believes that during onboarding ‘you absorb and learn from the people around you. You imitate and build your own character based on the various interactions.

Employee Onboarding is critical to helping an employee understand your culture and for that employee to imbibe the culture.’

It’s during the prolonged onboarding stage, roughly the length of a 6-month probation, that an employee decides whether they are going to stay with the company for the long haul. So, it’s important that you get your company culture right, Kiran Menon’s article on the subject can help you strike that balance and retain the right staff.
