Office Space in Town is delighted to announce we have recently raised £2,000 for the Good Companions Cuppa Lunch Club in Northampton.
Karen Hone, General Manager at our Northampton Business Centre, first posed the idea of supporting the Good Companions through her own volunteering efforts. The club was formed in late 2016 by Karen Smith – a lady wanting to make a difference and whose prior redundancy forced her to take action on an issue close to her heart – loneliness.
According to Age UK, sufferers of loneliness face the same effects of smoking 15 cigarettes a day. The Cuppa Lunch Club started with Karen and 4 peers whom she believed could benefit from a ‘good companion’. Fast forward 3 years, the club is now supported through the unpaid hours of 5 primary volunteers, an average of 40 weekly attendees, and over 85 members registered to their community. They strive to bring joy, laughter, fun, activity, love, life and support to each and every member of their club.
The money we have raised will aid the club in purchasing suitable and preferred musical instruments, storage facilities for their growing list of equipment, plus better and more reliable means of transport for less abled members to allow them to plan for even more group activities for the club to enjoy.
We presented the money to Karen and the team last week at their third anniversary and received the most heart-warming feedback.
